spoken

Wow.

So it's been about nine hours, and I'm still jaw-dropped at our coffeehouse last night.
Between the immense support we received both on-campus and off, the generous donations of food and funds, and the incredibly talented and passionate acts we had lined up...I'm still trying to process.

The tagline of the night was "We Are the Plan". We tried to communicate the idea that God not only has a plan to address injustice, but that somehow we are intimately involved in that plan ourselves.
And it was sick (in the good AND nauseous way). It's always so humbling when the words that you mutter are spoken in a much more convincing way in the lives of friends and strangers.

Definitely one of the highlights of the night for me was the spoken word done by the poet and social justice advocate, Truth Is...
In one of her pieces she repeated, "I wanted to do so much more than just talk about things".

As ironic as it sounds, these were one of the lines that convinced me again of the power of our words. Another great quote of the night (by a guy, Vaden Earle) was this: "Compassion without action is just pity".
It seems the power of our words are confirmed by the integrity of our actions. And maybe one reason why I'm so pumped after a long day and almost no sleep is because last night, we were able to meet our words with a little bit of integrity. So some good, even redemptive, things were spoken last night.

May this be the beginning of many things spoken this year!

Yah Glo, the coffee house was such a good night(: Very inspiring. I like the compassion quoute too....compassion without action is just pity. I guess that means I got a whole lot more pity than compassion!
